Will the Ukraine war help Orban win again?
Hungarian opposition parties wanted to wage war on Russia has Fidesz outsmarted them?
Whilst a war rages in Ukraine the world of politics, governments and elections continues. Today, the Hungarian people go to the polls to decide whether they will elect Viktor Orban, and his Fidesz party, for a fourth time or choose the extraordinarily weird coalition of parties that have joined in opposition.
I say “extraordinarily weird” because that is what six of Hungary’s main opposition parties appear to be when they decided to fuse into one coalition, United For Hungary, with the simple goal of deposing Orban. Its constituent members are formed from the Liberal Democratic Coalition, the Socialists and right-wing Jobbik. The right wing party, until recently despised as fascists and shunned by the other members of the coalition, has since rebranded as a conservative party and dropped key policies like open door immigration. Imagine a coalition of the Liberal Democrats, Greens, Socialist workers and BNP and you get the picture.
It is obvious that this marriage of convenience of such disparate parties is a divide and conquer strategy to take out the Liberal establishments clear enemy, Orban. It has been done before to weaken parties that have policies that opposite to the elite establishment and supported by general public.
If you take a look at how the Swedish Democrats in the European Parliament were enticed from the UKIP led, Freedom and Democracy Group, in the belief they would be mainstreamed in their home country. Come the next election the Swedish Democrats faced a similar marriage of convenience coalition. They gained seats but no power. Big win for the EU and the Liberal establishment.
It happened to parties in Denmark, Austria and Italy where populists parties were taken out by offers are made behind closed doors money and security as national parliamentarians, power in government or jobs in the establishment. Should “United For Hungary Win” the Liberal establishment would soon destroy both the Socialist and Jobbik in the same way.
Having seen of Trump, nullified the Brexit vote and ensured no UK populist party has risen in anger, limited any other populist parties influence in other EU countries and leaving Poland alone, for the time being, as its does NATO’s work, Viktor Orban is currently the Liberal Establishments number one enemy.
He is more an enemy because he understands how the governing classes work and has used their own methods of usurpation of power to establish a nation that is defiantly pro-Hungarian in culture, history and values. He is not false like most progressives who promote an outwardly liberal, smiling, embracing value base but in fact are narcissistic, anti-nation state, atheistic, anything goes nihilists who seek to atomise nations so that the party elites enjoy the spoils whilst opponents are demonised.
He is not a fascist. Hungary a not a dictatorship. He is not a Putin shill or in his pocket. Orban is actually a product of his time as a student opposing the USSR. As the head of the Alliance of Young Democrats he gave an address demanding Soviet trips left Hungary. He attended University and Oxford. And early in 1990 he was elected to Parliament for Fidesz , then a standard conservative party. He attracted the attention of George Soros who was spending money all across Central Europe to define a governing class of politicians who would support his liberal elitist agenda.
The Soros political strategy has mostly worked across Eastern Europe. The states are dominated by parties that are pro one world government and the EU, pro NATO, pro mass migration, pro green, pro diversity and anti everything that was once a christian-judaeo culturally history of Europe.
They did so by adopting strategies of identifying future thought leaders and promoting them within parties, they gained power in the media and ensure opposition voices and diminished and marginalised, they promoted and ensured governments funded favoured egos. Think tanks, universities, politics, promotions internationally, media control are all the hallmarks of Western Liberal democracies that exclude from the mainstream all those that oppose their agenda whilst allowing a smattering of opposition voices to exist for the facade of democracy.
All that Orban has done is adopt their strategies to ensure a conservative Christian heritage still exists somewhere in Europe and that those who believe in its protection can have a place to exist. It’s his success that is envied by similar traditional conservatives across the world who wish that the balance was less against them and their marginalisation.
It is this success that angers the Liberal agenda elitists in the EU and beyond. It is why they have unleashed their Henry II of England “who will rid me of this troublesome priest” strategy. When the King is said to a made this statement 4 Normandy Knights set out to kill the Archbishop of Canterbury who was the ire of the king.
Today, the Liberal elitists don’t send out assassins with swords to kill you off, (unless of course you are a small middle Eastern leader), they use the swords of propaganda to create a narrative that you are a hater, liar, misogynist, racist, nazi or dictator. They spread that message within countries through their own networks of NGO’s political groups, academics all funded by sources from their backers. They amplify claim through international organisations, organises street protests or riots. They identify supporters and their families of their target and do the same, ensure they are cancelled or lose their jobs.
This is what they have done with Orban. To them he is a liar. He is far-right, he supports Putin, he is a dictator, he hates the others, he is anti-EU and NATO and of course, he is also an autocrat enriching his own supporters. These are actually what the liberal elitists do and they are actually simply reflecting their own actions on him.
That is why the opposition were encourage to join to gather under the leadership of small town mayor, and self proclaimed catholic conservative Marki Zay. In the US they use the phrase RINO, Republican in name only. In Europe it’s CINO, conservative in name only. Zay certainly falls within that category. At a recent rally he tropes out the Liberal elites current buzz phrase
“We welcome everyone, right or left, Christian, Jewish or atheist, of any origin or sexual orientation. Because we believe what is important is not what divides us what unites us”
He also stated that Hungary must restore alliances with the EU and NATO. The fact is clear that Hungary is still within both those camps but decides issues that fit what it believes are best for Hungary. Marki Zay claims are simply that Hungary does as it is told by the those institutions and hopes for better scraps of the benefit table than others within the group.
Marki Zay also went on to say that Putin is responsible for the war in Ukraine and that Orban is a traitor for supporting Putin. This is based upon Orban refusing to allow weapons to be transferred across his border to supply Ukrainians and maintaining some ties with Russia. This means he is a traitor.
This ignores that Orban has opposed the Soviet Union and that prior to the war there was conflict between Ukraine and Hungary over the treatment of the significant Hungarian speaking community in Zakkarparti Oblast on the Tisza valley border between both countries. That dispute involves mistreatment of Hungarians, the Ukrainians education law forcing them to speak Ukrainian not Hungarian, marginalising them. Similar claims have been made by Russians living in Donbass and Bulgarian communities in Ukraine also
So despite the fine line in protecting the lives of those Hungarians in Ukraine and his nation as a whole the United For Hungary coalition have attacked Orban on the issue of the war.
During campaign rallies and tv interviews they doubled down on Orban being a Russian shill and that Hungary should send troops into battle.
Yet Hungary has enacted sanctions on Russia, it has supplied humanitarian aid and has accepted nearly 500,000 Ukrainian refugees into its country. Hungary is just shy of 10 million in population so accepting so rapidly an additional 5% is a huge strain.
Fidesz has argued that it is taking its fair share of refugees and that it policy of the past of ignoring false economic migrants has enabled them to be so generous. To ordinary Hungarians the claim Orban doesn’t take in refugees has also been laid bare are a fallacy. Equally, they are wary of the desire for their sons to die in a war next door and see their living standards destroyed.
This is the problem with Atlanticists and Liberal elites. It is not their children who will die. Soros or his organisations leaderships won’t lose their children. Their living standards won’t be trashed, They won’t be living in poverty. Quite frankly their living standards will be protected and supplemented by those very organisations advocating war. New think tanks, NGOs or other organisations will be established and funded to promote the war.
This self centred and greedy characteristic of the Liberal elites are seen for what they are. Maybe the people of Hungary also see it. For the polls appear to suggest that rather than accepting the jingoistic, interventionist pro NATO and EU war policies they are turning to Fidesz and it quiet policy of humanitarian aid and support whilst seeking to protect its economy.
We can ask the question will the Ukraine war help Orban win again and hope that he does.
